Born to George Clark Red and Rebecca Stuart in Gay Hill, Texas, Williams Stuart Red (1857-1933) graduated from Austin College in 1882, after studying briefly at the Southwestern Presbyterian University in Clarksville, Tennessee. Red studied Theology at several institutions, including the Columbia Theological Seminary, and finally graduated from the Austin School of Theology in 1886.
